Requirements for Student Visa

01 Requirements (Basic Eligibility):

To apply for a student visa, the applicant must:

Being in good physical and mental health.
Have no criminal record.
I intend to study Japanese seriously.
Be able to submit all necessary documents in time.
Have a clear plan (education or career path after graduation).

02 Educational Qualification:

Minimum : Passed G.C.E. O/L and A/L (12 years of education).
Additional : If not A/L qualified, must explain education gap clearly.
Preferred : JLPT N5 or basic Japanese language knowledge.
Optional : Any post-secondary or university education (bonus).

03 Age:

Minimum age : 18 years old.
Ideal age : 18–28 years.
Maximum : Up to 30 (depends on visa officer discretion & reason).

04 Documents Needed (Common List):

Passport Colour Copy (Full bio page)
Birth Certificate (with English translation)
O/L and A/L Certificates with certified English translation (Certified by Foreign Ministry)
JLPT Certificate (If available– N5/N4)
Passport Photos 3cm × 4cm (as per Japan visa size)
School Leaving Certificate With certified English translation
Other Educational Certificate
Service Letters (Optional)

Financial Document

Bank Certificate & Statement Proof of financial support
Sponsor Letter If someone else is paying

05 Visa Process for Student Visa

STEP 1: Application to the School (in Sri Lanka)

Initial Inquiry

• Contact SAKU Japanese Language School Pvt. Ltd. (Sri Lanka office or authorized agent)
• Receive program information, fee details, and required documents list

Document Collection

• Submit all required documents (see list below)
• Passport, birth certificate, education certificates, photos, bank documents, etc.

Application Fee Payment

• Pay the initial registration or document screening fee (if applicable)

STEP 2: COE Application (Certificate of Eligibility)

SAKU School in Japan applies for COE

• The school submits your application to the Immigration Bureau of Japan This takes 6–8 weeks (sometimes longer)

Approval from Immigration

• If approved, Immigration issues the COE.COE is sent to the applicant (PDF and original by courier)

STEP 3: Visa Application in Sri Lanka

Apply for a student visa at the Japanese Embassy

• Submit the COE and original documents The embassy processes your visa in 5–10 working days

Visa Issued

• You will receive a student visa (Ryūgaku visa) valid for 1 year or more

STEP 4: Pre-Departure Preparation

• Contact SAKU Japanese Language School Pvt. Ltd. (Sri Lanka office or authorized agent)
• Receive program information, fee details, and required documents list

Pay Tuition and Accommodation Fees

• Full payment or 6-month fees as required by the school

Flight Booking

• Book your ticket (usually arranged by the school or agent)

Pre-departure Orientation

• You will be guided about Japanese lifestyle, airport procedures, rules, and documents to carry

STEP 5: Arrival in Japan

Airport Pickup (Optional, arranged by school)
Accommodation Check-in
Resident Card Issued at Airport
Report to School & Attend Orientation
You’ll start your Japanese language course
